KOHATU ™ Humle was released in 2011 by the New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research. It is a lower alpha variety (6-7%) which is a descendant of Hallertau Mittelfrüh, that is where Khatu inherited its high humulene oil content from. This high proportion of humulos (36-37% of the total oil) provides a complex woody and resinous character. Kohatu also has a high MyrceneHalt (35-36%) that gives it a very fresh scent of tropical fruits, making it an excellent hops for single Hops beer and session IPA.
Commercial Example: Single IPA from breweries such as Brewdog and Cigar City
Origin: named after a small village south of the humming region of Nelson on New Zealand. It can also have its name from Maori -ordet which means stone or stone.
